Today QualCraft is celebrating over 20 years in business and has successfully completed hundreds of projects throughout the San Diego region.

Michael Jacobs-Bonnett has spent a lifetime learning every aspect of the building industry. Growing up in a construction family, he learned from childhood how to create buildings and homes from the ground up.

“For as long as I can remember, construction has been the centerpiece of my life. My childhood house wasn’t just a home, it was the headquarters of a family-owned construction company. Construction consumed my Saturdays, my summer vacations, in fact, it became my identity. My father believed in being a craftsman and required me to learn every aspect of building a home from the masonry to the roofing. I learned how to be really good at it all.” – Michael Jacobs-Bonnett

Fast forward to 1996, when at the age of 24, Michael founded QualCraft Construction. After years of working with the family business and obtaining a degree in Construction Technology, Michael decided to make his own mark on the San Diego construction industry and began QualCraft Construction. Even at that young age, he had a vision for a specialized construction company that combined his skills as a craftsman with a new boutique-style approach that he believed business and quality savvy San Diegans were seeking.

Looking forward, Michael continues to strive to improve the process in which QualCraft completes projects. Meeting his clients’ needs more efficiently and effectively is always the priority.

Michael resides in San Diego with his wife of eighteen years and their two children.

Sean Collins, a California native was born in Los Angeles and grew up in San Diego. His father, being a former marine carpenter and computer engineer taught him the value of precision and responsibility early in life. Sean went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from UCSD. While in college, Sean worked as a handyman for a property management company repairing and preparing properties for tenants.

After graduating from UCSD, Sean found work with a general contractor where he found his passion for building custom homes. He found that his background in logical analysis and stringent work ethic worked well in the construction industry. Soon after, Sean met Michael and joined Qualcraft Construction in 2006. With his dedication to work and eagerness to learn all aspects of the home building, Sean has earned series of promotions, from lead carpenter to project manager and now to his current role as construction manager for all of Qualcraft’s day to day field operations.

Dominique Tharp has been interested in designing interiors since childhood. She decided to focus this study in college and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design from San Diego State University in 1996.

A few years later, after getting married and starting a family, Dominique decided it was time to begin practicing her passion. She started her own interior design firm in 2003, and became an Allied Member of ASID in 2004. Since that time, she has honed her skills and enjoys every detail of the design process, from conception to completion. One of her favorite aspects of the profession is having the opportunity to help clients transform their dreams into reality, a process that is extremely rewarding.

In 2013, Dominique partnered with Qualcraft Construction to help streamline the interior design process for Qualcraft’s clients, and the partnership has been very successful. She is able to help make that process, which is often confusing and overwhelming to homeowners, simple and manageable, and the feedback has been incredibly positive.

Every new project provides Dominique the opportunity for growth, and she enjoys the challenges they bring to the table. “I’m lucky enough to work in a field that I feel passionate about and truly love, and for that reason, I don’t ever really feel like I’m working. My hope is to extend this love for the process to our clients, and make the design and construction experience as positive and enjoyable as possible.”

When not designing, Dominique enjoys living in Alpine with her husband and their two children.
